River City Ransom. Nintendo World Cup. Super Dodgeball. What do all of these games have in common? If you answered Kunio Kun aka one of the best series of all time, then you know what's up! Arc System Works recently announced on Famitsu a remake of Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku Soreyuke Daiundoukai and this is extremely good news! This game takes the chunky sprite characters from the Kunio Kun series and pits them against each other in an unorthodox sporting event where everything goes, especially cheating ;)
New to this version are highly detailed 3D backgrounds, online multiplayer support, and a single player story mode. The best thing of all for fans is that the classic character sprites have been retained, offering a retro charm exclusive to this series!

I have always liked the Nekketsu game series because of them having great gameplay, crazy ideas, extremely catchy music and overall fun experiences.
I got this game and then during a trip in Japan, I found this game with the same name on NES. Apparently, this game is a 100% copy from the NES version on PS3. The differences, from what I could tell, were the updated backgrounds to being 3D, updated music that still retains the NES theme songs and remains catchy as such and incredibly toned down difficulty. I could barely beat a single level on NES, this game is significantly easier in the regard. The other things you can do are create your own Nekketsu High School character ranging from all the faces, hairstyles, clothes and everything used in NES, plus a few more. You can also have your character have his or her own special moves and stats. Since I have never really figured out how to level up my character, I just keep using Kunio, the star of the Nekketsu game series.
This game overall consists of 4 main games; an arena game, a cross country race game, a game where you punch a ball in the center by climbing up ropes and the 4th also being some sort of race game. The cross country game has multiple stages and the arena game has a different arena per team battled against.
This game is extremely repetitive, but a lot of fun to play. If you liked River City Ransom, then you will like this game.
