A Cute Take of the Fantasy
Now, this game might not please older fans, but I'll always consider a spin-off as it's own game. It's only fair.
As an RPG, it's doing a fine job telling the tale, and providind you with the classic time bases turn combat.
The core of the game is to befirned various monsters to join your adventure. You can also train them to become stronger, and grant individual monsters skills, like you would any character.
It's similar to Pokémon, really. But no gym badges.
The game does a good job at giving the fan service of bringing charcaters from various games in the franchise. They merge well enough in the game's world, so you don't think too much about it if you already know these characters.
Gripes with the game, though.
The adventure menu is rather slow responding. Going into each character to edit your team formation or adding skills to monsters takes some waiting time in-between. I don't even think it's loading, but just really long winded animation between each menu transitions.
And a minor gripe about the menu is that the joysticks are too sensitive to navigate, but the directional pads works fine.
It's rather frustrating, at times.
If you can live through that, then enjoy the game.
