Item Description

This is the first volume (8 volumes) of the complete collection of Otomo's "AKIRA," which contains the first 14 issues (up to p. 279 of the first volume) of the serial "AKIRA" created by Katsuhiro Otomo in 1982-1983 when he was 28 or 29 years old, and published in Young Magazine. This historical work, which had a great impact on the manga world, is renowned for its completeness, but in fact, the author did a lot of brushing up when publishing it in book form. Additions, corrections, deletions, replacements, page and panel replacements, additional finishing touches, new drawings, etc., were made to polish the work, and the final product is the YANMAGA book version of "AKIRA," which is still being read 40 years after its initial publication. In particular, it is a well-known fact that the door pictures of each episode of the serialization were removed from the book.
However, in this edition of Otomo's complete works, we have decided to publish the "serial version," which is a reprint of the original version of the manga before any changes were made to the book, with all of the artwork, including the door pictures, restored to the original state as much as possible. Although there are some parts where the original images do not exist, and some cannot be restored to their original state because of direct revisions to the manuscript, we have made it our mission to "restore the original state as much as possible" in the collected editions. The "live serialized version of AKIRA," which has been completely lost since its serialization, is different from the "complete AKIRA" in book form, and perfectly recreates the excitement of the time when it was first published. It is a must-have and must-see volume dedicated to all "AKIRA" fans. The first issue of "AKIRA" differs from the book version in that it includes a very rare color spread of the first issue and color pages from the serialization, all reprinted as they were.
