Alkimya: House of Wisdom is a first-person survival horror adventure set during the Mongol siege of Baghdad, combining historically inspired storytelling with alchemy-driven combat, an interconnected House of Wisdom filled with hidden routes and puzzles, and a cosmic horror lurking beneath the ancient library; notably, the official site confirms a PlayStation 5 version alongside PC.
Alkimya: House of Wisdom takes players to Baghdad in 1258, during the Mongol siege of the city. You play as Yusuf, a master alchemist whose daughter is dying. With the House of Wisdom—the great library of Baghdad—burning around him, Yusuf ventures inside in search of Iksyr, a mysterious substance said to be the only cure for his daughter. But the deeper he travels into the House, the more he discovers that the building was created to contain something far more dangerous than the invading army outside.
The game blends survival horror, first-person combat, exploration, crafting, and environmental puzzles. The Mongol forces continually press into the House, creating an escalating external threat, while an otherworldly presence waits beneath the library. Ammunition is scarce, making every confrontation a calculated decision between fighting and finding another route.
Alchemy is central to Yusuf's survival. Players can gather materials and use an Alchemy Table to create different flasks, including explosive, blinding, and corrosive concoctions. Weapons found inside the House are also unlike conventional weapons of the period, powered by a mysterious material connected to the House's hidden knowledge.
The House of Wisdom itself functions as one interconnected environment rather than a collection of disconnected levels. Locked doors, mechanisms, crafted keys, hidden shortcuts, and environmental clues gradually reveal paths deeper into the building. Players must learn the layout and use shortcuts strategically, especially when something is hunting them.
Survival Horror in 1258 Baghdad
Experience a survival horror story grounded in the historical setting of the Mongol siege of Baghdad, while supernatural and cosmic-horror elements gradually emerge beneath the historical conflict.
A Desperate Search for a Cure
Play as Yusuf, a master alchemist searching the burning House of Wisdom for Iksyr, the only known cure for his dying daughter. His personal mission provides the central motivation for venturing deeper into the increasingly dangerous library.
Alchemy-Driven Combat
Gather resources and craft specialized alchemical flasks that can burn, blind, dissolve, and otherwise manipulate enemies. Choosing the appropriate concoction can turn an unfavorable encounter in Yusuf's favor.
Mysterious Weapons
Use strange weapons discovered within the House of Wisdom. These weapons are powered by a mysterious material that the scholars of the House kept secret, giving Yusuf access to technology and weaponry far beyond what would normally be expected in the historical setting.
Resource Management and Scarce Ammunition
Resources are limited, making combat a strategic choice rather than something players can approach carelessly. Players must decide when to spend ammunition and when it is safer to avoid confrontation.
Interconnected House of Wisdom
Explore a single interconnected environment filled with locked routes, hidden shortcuts, mechanisms, and secrets. Opening shortcuts can dramatically reduce the distance between areas, which becomes particularly important when enemies are pursuing Yusuf.
Golden Age Puzzles and Mechanisms
Solve mechanisms and environmental challenges inspired by the intellectual achievements of the House's historical setting. Some obstacles require discovering keys, crafting solutions, or understanding how the House itself works.
Unkillable Stalker Enemies
Not every enemy can be defeated. Certain stalkers are specifically designed to hunt Yusuf, forcing players to evade them, remain quiet, use the environment, and learn escape routes instead of relying solely on combat.
Boss Encounters
While some threats must be avoided, the game also features boss fights. These encounters provide a more direct confrontation with the horrors encountered during Yusuf's descent into the House.
Historical and Cosmic Horror
The game begins from a real historical event and location before introducing fictional mysteries surrounding what the House of Wisdom may have been built to contain. This combination creates a setting where historical tragedy and cosmic horror exist side by side.
Unreal Engine 5 Presentation
The game is built using Unreal Engine 5, supporting its detailed environments, atmospheric horror presentation, and cinematic storytelling.
