Item Description

“Alpha Ray” by the Norio Maeda Trio is a refined jazz release presented in a classic vinyl format, delivering a warm and immersive analog sound experience. Known for their sophistication and musical precision, the trio blends piano-led jazz, smooth rhythms, and expressive improvisation, creating a sound that is both elegant and engaging.

From J-DIGS, a project that shares Nippon Columbia's catalog with the world, six Japanese jazz masterpieces are reissued on analog vinyl. A torrent of talent released from the fingertips. The art of a piano trio by a master arranger. Genius arranger Norio Maeda, who was even described as "writing different scores with his right and left hands at the same time", welcomed his close allies Takeshi Inomata and Tatsuro Takimoto in 1968, amid the fervor of the student movement, and took on his first piano trio work head-on as a pianist. This work combines orderly melodies in the new mainstream style that led the jazz scene of the time, experimental qualities making full use of prepared piano, and even an eccentric level of creativity in stuffing as many as seven microphones inside the piano. An important work that should be carved into the history of Japanese jazz, where his outstanding structural ability as a composer and arranger is intricately interwoven with his sharp instinct as a performer.
