Portable Audition Review - First Impressions
Okay, got my hands on a copy of Portable Audition Limited Edition, this morning, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. Thanks to Play-Asia for for excellent service, and quick shipping. Thanks for offering Fed-Ex now, as I really prefer them over UPS!
Here are my first impressions.
Graphics and Intro:
Great intro video with a catchy tune, and in Korean, as I recall. Very pop! We watch as an underground subway stop turns into a dance floor with speakers popping up from all directions. About 3 minutes long.
All in game screens are in English, for the most part, very easy to navigate. Modes Include: Free; Standard; Network; Jukebox; Options (I may have forgotten one or two modes)
Gameplay:
Yes, this game totally reminds me of Bust A Groove/Move gameplay. You are on a \"stage\" and dancing next to another dancer. You start, and hear a voice say start: The some arrow codes come up, and you have to hit the arrows in the order that is shown. I think you have to hit the last arrow symbol on the 4th beat, which clearly shows. I tried this for a few songs, and got several \"perfects\" I think. But I kept \"losing.\"
When the screen came up showing my results, I saw had received 7 \"poors.\" Confusing. I turned to the included manual, but it is 100% Korean. Can\'t read any of it.
I\'ll definitely look for a FAQ or on-line help for this or the PC version to play better. I think I\'ve seen some on-line PC version boards that were quite active.
Limited Edition Extras:
Mini CD is the OST. I thought OST stood for \"Original Soundtrack\" which included 90% of the songs. But this soundtrack seems to only have 3 or 4 songs. I\'ll confirm that in a following post. There\'s a Key Chain, or Cell phone cord, a blank diary, with colorful pages, and some images from the game; a coupon, I think for PC version \"cash\" to buy stuff on-line; and a calendar for 2007, which is about 5 months too late. Everything is packaged in a very attractive \"retro\" style picture of a turntable, the size of a 45 record, on the box. The back of the box has a large picture with just about every character from the game.
I think everything is cute and nice, but would not buy this edition unless you\'re a big fan. I\'m not sorry I have it though, just a bit disappointed. Does not compare to other Limited Edition packages I\'ve purchased. But definitely a nice gift package.
Lasting impressions:
Overall, I feel that this game will be fun. I love the games Bust a Groove/Move 1 and 2, my favorite from the Playstation 2 days, and feel that I\'ll learn to love this one too. I just hope I can figure out the Gameplay modes, and understand the strategy to win. All in good time.
