Item Description
Mikasa from "Azur Lane" joins the 1/4-scale "Japanese Doll" lineup from FuRyu's high-quality hobby brand "F:NEX"! This beautiful item was made in collaboration with the traditional craft maker Kaga Yuzen from Ishikawa Prefecture, resulting in a drop-dead-gorgeous figure with elements of a traditional Japanese doll. Her pose, looking over her shoulder with an umbrella in hand, echoes the "beauty looking back" theme; she exudes elegance and dignity, and you won't be able to take your eyes off her! Her hair blowing in the wind and her delicate hair accessories have been carefully sculpted with a high level of attention to detail.
The prototype for her costume was made by the Ichimatsu doll maker Yamazaki Akisaki. Based on the illustration, they researched the realism of what it would be like if the character actually wore the kimono. They repeatedly tried out different sleeve movements and shapes, and created the kimono to fill the gap between the illustration and reality. The front view, which was not visible in the illustration, was carefully crafted to express natural movement, down to the details of the hem.
The pattern of her costume was redesigned to fit a quarter-size figure based on the actual Kaga Yuzen kimono produced and exhibited during the collaboration. In order to reproduce the delicate musical instrument and sheet music patterns that the Kaga Yuzen artist Tetsuya Shishime created, they used the technique ofebamonyo, which allows patterns to connect across seams in fabric. Particular attention was paid to the colors to capture his intentions, and a digital printer was used to maximize the expression of the fine line touches and gradations. This was made possible with the cooperation of Nishimura Shoji Shoten, a long-established textile merchant in Kyoto.
While retaining the atmosphere of the collaborative illustration, the obi is designed to be balanced with the furisode, and has a luxurious and realistic color. This was expressed by selecting golden brocade made by Morisan, a Nishijin weaver in Kyoto, and incorporating the "ura-tsukai" technique that is also used for hina matsuri dolls.
This unforgettable figure deserves a place of honor in your collection.
