故事根據韓國歷史上真實人物改編而成，是長今從宮廷廚師一直提升到禦醫的奮鬥故事，敘述十六世紀描寫朝鮮王朝中宗時期，孤女長今七歲時，父母因捲入宮廷鬥爭而遭殺害。為完成母親的心願，因緣際會進入宮中之後，因天資聰明和刻苦勞力而受到矚目，但也在宮中人事的傾軋中遭到陷害，甚至還被留放到外島。但長今不向命運低頭，潛心學習醫術，並融入宮廷膳食中，最後竟意外挽救王上的性命，受到國王的信賴，成為韓國第一位女御醫並受為「大長今」。長今是個積極上進的女子，不過在感情上，她卻渺小、脆弱夾在皇帝與判官間。

"Jewel In The place'' Is based on true story about A legendary girl [Jang geum] who became the first woman to be supreme royal physician of her time. Dispite her poor codition as a low class girl in the male dominated society, jang guem overcame series of social discrimination and landed herself as a royal cook, later becaming a royal physician, the ultimately physician in the charge of the king. great drama

even though im not very big korean drama lover this one stands out from most because of its captivating scenes and story.. i love this and missed a lot of the parts while watching it on tv i still am right now but i dont get home before the show starts so i miss the first 30 minutes or so... :( but thats ok i still watch the rest of it and plan to buy the dvd box set and found a cheap place :)

Excellent drama!

Though I\'m not a fan of Korean movies, but this drama series is just absolutely marvelous and captivating. This complete 27-discs set (54 episodes) includes some scenes and footages not aired on TV broadcasts, with episodes running time of approximately an hour each. Eventhough other boxsets of this series contains 70 episodes, the running time could be about 45 mins each.

So, indeed this deluxe boxset is the complete series with excellent audio and video quality and some footage extras; not to mention that it also came with a booklet similar to the one in the drama =).
