Anthropomorphic Helicopters Rule

Mr. Heli is one of those odd little shooters caught on the cusp of the 8-bit/16-bit transition -- the gameplay is very simple, with scrolling environments and plenty of enemies to take out, but the audiovisuals are a step up from the NES. And the arcade mode is tough, so don't let the cute graphics fool you. There's a hint of R-Type in this game by Irem, and it holds up well almost two decades after its release.

Ultimate cute em ups

Poor ol\' Mr. Heli, possibly the shooter game world\'s biggest ever hitbox. This is a side(ish)-scroller, with looser controls - you can roam about the screen moreso and double-back (if memory serves, that makes the baddies appear again so you have to shoot them twice) and there\'s a bit of the New Zealand Story balloon-mode form of travel to the controls.

Loads of cool features - crystal collecting, buying power-ups, levels that start in the dark!

Mr.Heli features as an unlockable ship in R-Type Final, which you should also get.
