Perfect if you can read Japanese
This book acts as a strategy guide for R-Type Tactics II, and in that regards it is a great buy; if you can read Japanese (which I can't). The book is text-heavy, with lots of unit data and thumbnail graphics for the most part, though its walk-through section provides very nice stage layout previews.

Having missed the Complete Guide for the first Tactics game, I didn't know what to expect of this book; with the R-Type Final guide as my last experience with this set of books, I was expecting more/larger artwork and renders of the units. Instead, most of the unit art is very small, only there to accent charts of unit stats and abilities. Good for people who like to have all the game data on-hand, but not so much for somebody like me who comes into these books expecting a nice look at the artistic side of IREM's newest R-Type endeavor. That said, there -is- a Concept Art and render section near the back of the book, but it is woefully short. While no-less interesting to look at, it only covers a very small amount of the new designs in the game, including units that are not unique to this release.

Still, an interesting buy, but probably only worth anything to a die-hard R-Type fan if you can't read the language.
