身患癌症、只剩4星期壽命的華打劫財務公司，搶去鑽石，並且脅持人質。剛被調任文職兼任談判專家的生趕到現場，想勸華自首，華揚言要和生玩一場72小時的遊戲後逃掉，生對此深深不忿。華在逃離過程中，遇上警察路障，於是挾持婷假扮情侶得以成功脫險，令2人留下了深刻的印象。

72小時的遊戲由一顆華寄給生的螺絲釘開始，生夜闖財務公司，不料上了華的當。原來華一直監視生並利用生意圖搶劫財務公司隔壁運輸公司幕後主腦人陳的珠寶。華利用生調虎離山，假扮陳的模樣從陳的手下取得寶石後逃離現場。生在調查中發現陳走私珠寶，多年前曾出賣過華的父親，華身患上了晚期癌症，在父親死後從英國趕回以報父仇。

為了將華繩之以法，生不得以答應和華合作共同對付陳。華男扮女裝，利用生智取陳的2,000萬鉅款後攜帶寶石項鏈趁亂逃走，陳因華的偷樑換柱之計（交易現場有華留下的財務公司的鑽石）而被警方逮捕。生等候在汽車上，但又再次讓華順利逃離，失去了送他去警署的機會。之後生從報紙上得知華以生的名義將2,000萬圓捐獻給了兒童癌症基金會，而華也從此消失無蹤。

Andy, a handsome elegant young man, has only 14 days left in his life. He burglars a Diamond Trading Company and hence arouses the attention of a police negotiator, Sean. Sean believes Andy is challenging his wisdom and courage. He is eager to arrest Andy. An intense struggle triggers off, until Sean discovers the serious illness of Andy. What will Sean do?

Brilliant

This is an enjoyable movie to watch after a long day at work. Feel sorry to the cop though.. even more so if you watch the sequel as well

Good movie!!!

A movie that was about a decade old. Plot is rather flimsy, but I like the flow of the movie, and the ending is rather predictable. But I enjoyed watching the movie, the girl is quite pretty, but too bad the story doesn't expand too much on the female character.

Excellent!!!

This is a very exciting cat-and-mouse / cop-and-robber movie in the 90's and has been one of my most favorite movie!!

Brilliant acting from both Andy Lau (who won best actor that year) and Lau Ching Wan...
