One of Japan's leading Brazilian fusion units active in the 1970s and 1980s, Carioca released their debut album in 1978. The group began as the backing band for Kiyoshi Hasegawa and was billed as "Samba Calioca" on this debut release. As the name suggests, their resort-flavored blend of samba and bossa nova was quite rare at the time, and the group featured notable players such as drummer Antonio Ishida and guitarist Masami Sato. This first album, also highly popular on the club scene, features a wide range of guest musicians including Masayoshi Takanaka, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami, and Shigeharu Mukai. Originally released in 1978.
