You play as Whitaker, a digitized consciousness known as a Sleepwalker, inhabiting a durable drone called a Needle. Humanity now survives by projecting their minds into mechanical bodies, and your journey through the Dead Zone is driven by a single objective: reach the legendary city in the sky known as Highpoint. Along the way, you'll uncover the secrets behind the world's collapse while fighting for survival against overwhelming mechanical threats.

A key feature of TankRat is the ability to seamlessly switch between the nimble Needle drone and heavily armed combat tanks. Players can scavenge enemy wreckage, dismantle destroyed machines, and graft recovered technology onto their own equipment.
