Item Description

The legendary 3-on-3 fighting game series that united rival brawlers from SNK Playmore’s classic arcade franchises celebrates its 15th Anniversary in style with the release of The King of Fighters XII. For the first time in its history, this epic martial arts showdown has undergone a complete graphical overhaul. The antiquated character sprites used over the past 14 years have been dropped in favor of all-new, high-resolution fighters fluidly animating across painstakingly detailed, 100% hand-drawn backgrounds.

Re-birth
They said it all along, KoF XII is supposed to be the rebirth of the series. New sprites,(some) new fighters, new generation. And that's exactly what we got.
It's like the first of a series which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it ain't great either. Main problem is that it lacks some things you're used from a KoF game. Like a huge epic boss fight at the end or characters, levels and modes. It doesn't have a storyline, just an arcade mode which is also timeattack. No cutscenes, no character developpment, just 5 fights, your end result and the credits. There's no challenge mode like in KoF XI and not even survival. Only Arcade, Versus and Online.
Granted this all sounds pretty bad, but on let's look on the bright side. The graphics look amazing. I'm a fan of 2D so this was right up my alley. I prefer those highly detailed 2D sprites over the 3D models used in SF IV. The backgrounds might make you take your eyes of the action for a while because it's just gorgous. The gameplay is KoF at it's best. If you've played KoF before you know what i'm talking about. Similar controls like a Street Fighter game just a tiny bit better if you ask me. Much more ways to chain combos and supermoves. The character cast features all the favourites with one well known large chested Ninja girl MIA...sadly.

Overall, King of Fighters XII lacks in content and offers a lot less than previous games of the series. But the gameplay is amazing and if you're playing against a friend or online i'll promise you, you'll have a blast. If you love fighting games you cannot allow yourself to miss the rebirth of a legend.

Game good but not everything that was spoken
Although not the KOF dream as most assume, until it is a good game. The graphics are great, revolution for more than 10 years could not be seen. But has that feeling of "missing" something. You do not have Challenge Mode, Endless, cast of fighters is the least that has appeared in the series, no pre-bouts, victory poses varied list of hits is small for some (Mature only have 2 + DM). Definitely game a 7.8. Not have the replay factor exploited if you do not have to play with at home, he leaves the game easy. Online mode that he's very bad, I hope that it will release patch corrects this. I bought at Play-Asia is asking a friend who made him in to it. Thanks Play-Asia.

Well worth it...
This iteration of KOF has been done well with the backgrounds looking great and the fighting mechanics second to none. Unfortunately the character sprites are little rough around the edges and this will grab your attention almost immediately. Also the fighing roster has been cut back significantly and with no more Mai, I have to admit I was a little dissapointed. That said the game was great and still holds up as a great entry to the KOF series. The gameplay mechanics alone make this well worth a buy.
