The Sinking City 2 is a Lovecraftian third-person survival horror adventure that moves the series toward a more focused semi-open-world survival experience, combining scarce resources, investigation, exploration, environmental puzzles, terrifying creatures, and a flooded 1920s Arkham.
The Sinking City 2 takes players to Arkham, New England, during the 1920s, where a supernatural flood has transformed the city into a decaying, waterlogged nightmare. Streets, buildings, markets, hospitals, and underground areas conceal eldritch horrors inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft. The sequel shifts the series toward survival horror, placing greater emphasis on combat, exploration, resource management, and survival while retaining the investigative roots of the original.
The story follows Calvin Rafferty, who ventures into the flooded city after a mysterious ritual goes wrong and the soul of the woman he loves becomes trapped in the Dreamlands while malevolent forces steal her body. Calvin must travel through the catastrophe and investigate the source of the flood while searching for a way to rescue her.
Survival depends on careful resource management. Ammunition and supplies are limited, meaning players cannot simply fight every creature they encounter. Some encounters are better handled by retreating, returning to a refuge, adjusting equipment and abilities, or taking an alternative route through Arkham.
Investigation remains an important part of the experience, but optional cases are designed to complement rather than block the main progression. Searching for ritual traces, grisly clues, strange journals, and disturbing objects can reveal safer routes, valuable supplies, and upgrades that improve the chances of surviving future encounters.
Lovecraftian Survival Horror
Experience cosmic horror inspired by H. P. Lovecraft through a tense third-person survival horror adventure where mysterious rituals, supernatural floods, eldritch creatures, and disturbing discoveries transform Arkham into a place where survival is never guaranteed.
Flooded 1920s Arkham
Explore a richly atmospheric version of Arkham filled with tide-stained streets, Art Deco architecture, abandoned speakeasies, flooded districts, hidden interiors, and dangerous areas beneath the city. Travel can involve both exploration on foot and by skiff.
Semi-Open-World Exploration
The sequel moves away from the original game's open-world detective structure toward a semi-open-world survival horror format, allowing exploration across interconnected areas while emphasizing survival, combat, and discovery.
Resource Management
Ammunition and other resources are deliberately limited. Players must carefully decide when to fight, when to retreat, and when to conserve supplies for more dangerous encounters later.
Investigation and Optional Cases
Investigate ritual residues, disturbing clues, mysterious journals, and other evidence scattered throughout Arkham. Optional investigations can reward players with safer routes, supplies, and upgrades without preventing progress through the main story.
Refuges and Character Preparation
When an encounter becomes too dangerous, players can retreat to a place of refuge, rearm, and adjust their build before attempting the challenge again. This creates a strategic rhythm between exploration, combat, preparation, and survival.
Unsettling Puzzles
The journey through Arkham includes environmental puzzles and strange investigative challenges. Players must interpret clues and interact with disturbing objects and mechanisms to uncover paths and secrets.
Fearsome Lovecraftian Enemies
Battle creatures such as the Slither and Deep Ones, each presenting different threats. Some enemies are aggressive melee attackers, while others introduce different forms of pressure that force players to adapt their tactics.
Deep One Raiders
Deep One Raiders are powerful close-range enemies capable of sudden movements, powerful claw attacks, and unpredictable charges. Their unusual movement patterns make them particularly dangerous when encountered at close quarters.
A Personal Rescue Mission
Calvin's journey is driven by an intensely personal objective: finding a way to rescue the woman he loves after a failed ritual traps her soul in the Dreamlands and her body is taken by malevolent forces.
New Game+
A fully featured New Game+ mode is available, allowing players to carry their perk points, perks, and items into a new playthrough. The mode also introduces additional challenges and rewards for players looking for more reasons to return to Arkham.
Unreal Engine 5
The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5, supporting its detailed environments, atmospheric lighting, creature designs, and cinematic survival-horror presentation.
PlayStation 5 Experience
The PS5 version supports DualSense vibration and adaptive trigger effects, while the official PlayStation listing also includes accessibility options such as adjustable stick sensitivity, 3D audio, subtitles, and the ability to play without motion controls or adaptive trigger effects.
Nintendo Switch 2 Version Confirmed
A Nintendo Switch 2 version has been officially confirmed, bringing the Lovecraftian survival horror experience to Nintendo's newer hardware platform.
