TIME is the final theatrical collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani. After its world premiere at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam in 2021, the piece received its Japanese premiere on March 28, 2024 — exactly one year after Sakamoto's passing — at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. Audiences step into darkness — a space where only the sound of rain exists. And in that very moment, the work begins. A stage where water trembles like a mirror. Screens alive with intricate light. Drawing on Natsume Soseki's Ten Nights of Dreams, Kantan, and The Dream of the Butterfly, the work weaves together performance, sound, installation, and visual art around a single thread: time. Featuring Min Tanaka, Mayumi Miyata (shō), and Rin Ishihara.
Comes with a deluxe booklet including Ryuichi Sakamoto's handwritten production notes, stage photographs, and a contribution by Tetsuya Ozaki, with full Japanese and English text (108 pages)
