Item Description
“Variation” by the Hiroshi Suzuki & Masahiko Togashi Quintet is a distinguished jazz release presented in a premium vinyl format, delivering a warm and immersive analog listening experience. Featuring the collaboration between renowned trombonist Hiroshi Suzuki and acclaimed drummer Masahiko Togashi, this album highlights a refined fusion of modern jazz, improvisation, and expressive instrumentation.
From J-DIGS, a project that shares Nippon Columbia's catalog with the world, six Japanese jazz masterpieces are reissued on vinyl. Cutting-edge spirit and passion intersect. An innovative work born from the collision of two rare talents. One was Hiroshi Suzuki, a trombonist so in demand that people said, "If you want to record something good, secure his schedule." The other was Masahiko Togashi, a drummer who emerged at a young age and was sweeping the jazz world, from modern jazz to free jazz. The collision of these two personalities and talents created a new current in Japan's jazz scene. The entire work is filled with creativity and passion, including "Castle Cats", which moves between jazz rock and free jazz, "Suzu no Uta", in which Yuji Ohno's piano weaves a beautiful melody amid bell sounds pouring down like rain, and "Passion", in which each musician cuts in with sharp intensity. Released in 1969, this work is said to be the first in Japan to record and present new jazz to free jazz as a full-fledged release. From this turning point, Japanese jazz began to change dramatically.
