Otsuka Yasuo is a legend in the history of Japanese animation.
This long interview book with the famous animator who discovered directors Takahata Isao and Miyazaki Hayao when they were newcomers and the first animated Lupin in "Lupin the Third" (old film) has finally been revived in a new edition!
Otsuka, who was an animation director on masterpieces such as "The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun" (1968), "Lupin III" (old, 1971-1972), "Future Boy Conan" (1978), and "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" (1979), and was thoroughly particular about "moving pictures", was loved by many colleagues and fans for his easygoing and fun personality, and passed away at the age of 89 in 2021. This book is the only long interview book in which Otsuka talks freely about a variety of themes over a period of five years, such as behind-the-scenes stories of the production of past film and TV works, his long and deep friendship with directors Takahata and Miyazaki, the reality of anime production sites, and the changes in the times and people.
This book was highly praised by many when it was first published in 2006 for its thrilling historical testimony that only Otsuka himself could tell and its humorous style of storytelling. In recent years, it has been difficult to obtain, but the original publisher has now republished it, Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha, in a long-awaited new edition with a new cover and font, and many treasured drawings and rare photographs.
