Pretty good!
You play as Aiden Pierce, a man on his journey to redemption and retribution. Wronged by an unknown force that caused the loss of his family member, he will make things right and simultaneously, restore peace and order to the city of Chicago. Thanks to his high performance hacking skills, Watch Dogs comes to life.
Gameplay – Main story missions and plenty of side missions such as:
a. Fixer Contracts (car chases)
b. Criminal Convoys (elimination of mobile targets)
c. Gang Hideout raids (Far Cry 3-like)
d. Random criminal takedown chases (Assassin’s Creed 3-like)
e. CTOs towers activation (Far Cry 3-like)
f. Hacking mini games (Deus Ex: Human Revolution-like)
g. Detective investigations (serial murder, illegal shipment, etc. which unlocks additional missions)
h. Digital Trips (assortment of surreal mini games when you are high on… audio waves)
i. Cash Trail Chase (parkour all the way to collect coins)
j. Miscellaneous games (betting games, chess, slot machines and getting drunk, yes)
Online mode – Online Tailing, Online Hacking, Car Chases + Police evasion, Online Decryption (only on PS4, Xbox ONE, PC)
As you can see, there are many things to do in Watch Dogs. For under $60, you are getting your money’s worth for the high replay value and endless hours of fun. Even after the main storyline ended, there are still many things to do in Chicago.
Armed with your smartphone, hacking will be your major element in the game. Hack to detonate bombs, cause blackouts and steam pipe explosions plus many more, you can use the fully wired and connected environment of Chicago to your advantage to strike enemies and evade police. Car chases will be another major gameplay in the game.
Downside – The driving mechanics is unsatisfactory. It is difficult to control and stressful under stressful moments. Perhaps the breaking point is reached when main missions require to chase enemies on wheels, it is very frustrating, believe me. The graphics is fairly acceptable although it looks nothing like the E3 2012 trailer.
All in all, despite some flaws, this game is highly recommended! Good efforts from Ubisoft to create an astonishing open world game that woos players. So many things to do in Watch Dogs, it will consume days and weeks of your life.
p/s: I have played for 35+ hours and I am still in Act 2.
