Himiko Kikuchi is recognized for her expressive keyboard performance and refined compositions, making her a notable figure in Japan’s jazz and instrumental scene.
Himiko Kikuchi, a world-class female keyboardist representative of Japan, has her second album from her CBS Sony era, "SEVILLA BREEZE" (released in 1988), released on vinyl for the first time.
With the music of G. Bizet's opera "Carmen" and Spanish music as motifs, it is a masterpiece Latin jazz to fusion album in which fluid and vivid keyboards dance freely against the backing of a dynamic heavyweight rhythm section and a sharp horn section that responds as if competing with it. It includes the high-speed Cuban to Latin jazz "TOREADOR" full of rampant virtuosity, covers from G. Bizet's opera "Carmen" -- "GYPSY SONG from Carmen" and "SEGUIDILLA from Carmen" -- the Latin to funky fusion "SEVILLA BREEZE" and "PRIMAVELA" on which Naoki Watanabe (bass) and Atsuo Okamoto (drums) of the Spectrum and AB'S camp, along with Yoshinori Nomi (percussion), are active, and the relaxed and mellow "BLUE GIBRALTAR" and "SIESTA."
