Step into the next evolution of a classic arcade franchise with ROUTE16R ON STEAM, a brand-new installment in the legendary Route16 series originally introduced in the 1980s. Developed by Wit One and published by SUNSOFT, this action-packed revival combines high-speed vehicle chases, maze exploration, robot combat, and multiplayer competition into a modernized arcade experience.
In ROUTE16R, players take control of the evolved MAD X-R as they battle the revived Kanharoo Gang. Race through intricate maze-filled stages while collecting every item scattered throughout the map. The game features a unique dual-view system that lets players switch between Maze Mode, where traps and enemies lurk around every corner, and Radar Mode, which reveals the entire stage composed of 16 interconnected mazes.
Unlike previous entries in the series, ROUTE16R introduces robot combat. When colliding with enemies, MAD X-R transforms into a battle robot, allowing players to fight back using powerful attacks and SP items collected during gameplay. Customization options let players upgrade speed, fuel capacity, and combat abilities, creating a personalized playstyle for every mission.
The adventure culminates in challenging boss encounters against the Kanharoo Gang, adding intense action beyond simple item collection. For the first time in franchise history, the game also includes local multiplayer, featuring a competitive capture-the-flag mode designed for friends and family.
