There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is a first-person, story-driven adventure developed and published by Friday Sundae. Players take on the role of Chris David, a young American who unexpectedly inherits a decaying English seaside hotel. With only 30 days and 30 nights to restore the Grand Hotel, Chris must repair and redecorate the property during the day while surviving supernatural threats that emerge after sunset.
The hotel's renovation tools become an unusual arsenal after dark. Players can use talking tools such as a sandblaster, paint sprayer, furniture cannon, and daisy-chain gun for restoration during the day, then turn those same tools against ghosts and other supernatural enemies at night. This unusual day-and-night structure is central to the game's identity.
Beyond the Grand Hotel, players can explore a mysterious English seaside village filled with eccentric residents, side activities, hidden locations, and secrets. Activities include riding a scooter, playing mini-golf, searching the beach with a metal detector, taking photographs at the pier, and exploring hidden coves by fishing boat. Environmental puzzles also encourage players to investigate the hotel's history and uncover cryptic clues.
Music is another major part of the experience. Each mysterious character has a story and song, with musical styles ranging from spooky ska and wartime jazz to skater punk. Players can duet with characters to reveal more about their personalities and hidden truths, making the game part adventure, part horror mystery, part renovation experience, and part musical.
Renovate by Day, Hunt Ghosts by Night
Restore the Grand Hotel during daylight hours, then defend yourself against supernatural threats when night falls. The same tools used for renovation can become weapons against the ghosts haunting the property.
A Surreal First-Person Mystery
Investigate a strange supernatural mystery surrounding the Grand Hotel, its former owners, the surrounding village, and Chris David's own buried past. The story gradually reveals forgotten rituals, erased truths, and something much older lurking beneath the surface.
Talking Power Tools
Use an unusual collection of friendly, talking renovation tools, including a sandblaster, paint sprayer, furniture cannon, and daisy-chain gun. Their purpose changes after dark as they become part of Chris's supernatural arsenal.
Fight Supernatural Threats
Battle ghosts and strange entities using unconventional methods. Players can vacuum up vengeful spirits, reveal invisible enemies with the paint sprayer, or attack supernatural furniture and creatures using the furniture cannon.
30 Days and 30 Nights
Chris has a limited period to restore the dilapidated hotel. The day-and-night cycle creates a distinctive rhythm between renovation, investigation, exploration, and supernatural encounters.
Musical Mystery
The game incorporates musical performances directly into its storytelling. Characters have their own songs and musical styles, and players can duet with them to uncover deeper parts of their stories.
Explore an English Seaside Village
The Grand Hotel is only part of the adventure. Explore the surrounding seaside village, interact with unusual residents, discover secrets, and take part in activities such as mini-golf, photography, metal detecting, scooter rides, and fishing trips.
Environmental Puzzles and Investigation
Slow down between action sequences to examine the environment, solve light puzzles, and use clues connected to the hotel's dark history to uncover what is really happening.
A Story Full of Eccentric Characters
The village is populated by mysterious characters who each have their own stories and secrets. The game's narrative combines comedy, horror, mystery, music, and personal drama.
