Better than I Expected
It goes without saying this is the best Major League Baseball game on the Nintendo Switch, given that the others are all the now-defunct R.B.I. Baseball series. As a fan of MLB and video game baseball, I was pleased for a better alternative on Switch, but not very optimistic after playing the demo of this game a few months ago.

Fortunately, a lot of improvements were made to the game since that demo. No, this is not the ideal way to play MLB The Show 22. You are getting 30fps performance at best here, and the visuals look a bit odd at times. That said, it is an extremely impressive port of a PS4 / PS5 game, and San Diego Studio deserves a ton of credit for what they have accomplished here with much weaker hardware.

Gameplay-wise, everything is here. There are tons of options for batting, pitching, and fielding, and a real sense of choice and freedom that is absent from any other MLB sim game in previous years. There's even a "retro mode" that mimics the SNES game Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, with The Kid himself providing some limited voice-over. Neat!

If you just love video game baseball and want to play on your Nintendo Switch, I recommend Super Mega Baseball 3 as a superior product. But if you're looking for an MLB simulation you can play on the go, you can't go wrong with this port of The Show.
