Cerita VANQUISH™ ditetapkan pada masa depan yang dekat. Rusia dan Amerika Syarikat bersaing untuk pemilikan sumber tenaga dunia yang cepat berkurangan dan AS telah membina stesen angkasa untuk memanfaatkan tenaga dari matahari. Pasukan Rusia menangkap stesen angkasa ini dan mengalihkan tenaga suria yang dipanen ke gelombang letupan yang memusnahkan San Francisco, bertujuan untuk memaksa AS menyerah sepenuhnya dan tanpa syarat. Sebagai tindak balas, AS menugaskan pasukan bersenjatanya untuk menangkap semula stesen angkasa sebelum Rusia dapat membinasakan sasaran seterusnya mereka – New York.
