The deviceis based on a custom Pica200 graphics processor from a Japanese start-up Digital Media Professionals (DMP). It has two screens; the top screen is a 4.88 in 5:3 3D screen with a resolution of 800x240 pixels (400x240 pixels per eye, WQVGA) that is able to produce a stereoscopic three-dimensional effect without 3D glasses, while the bottom screen is a 4.18 in 4:3 non-3D touch panel with a resolution of 320x240 pixels (QVGA). The 3DS weighs approximately 8 oz. and, when closed, is 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, and 0.8 inches tall. The system features several additions to the design of the original DS, including a slider on the side of the device that adjusts the intensity of the 3D effect, a round nub analog input called the "Slide Pad", an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. In addition, there is an infra-red communicator port situated on the top of the unit. The 3DS has two cameras on the outside of the device, capable of taking 3D photos and capturing 3D video, as well as a camera positioned above the top screen that faces the player; both cameras have a resolution of 640x480 pixels (0.3 Megapixel). There haven't been as many special editions of the New 3DS XL that have the body color inside the clamshell, so that makes this one a bit unique!
The orange-on-yellow design means Pikachu doesn't pop out of the design like on the Solgaleo and Lunala edition. Instead, the entire 3DS screams color while Pikachu gives it some nice visual texture. It's pleasant to see in person.
For those uninitiated to Japanese 3DSs, there are a few good things to know. It gives no option to change the UI language, it's on Japanese permanently. Of course, since it also only plays Japanese games, you should be prepared for that. You can use an American Visa or Mastercard on the eshop, but you'll pay a foreign transaction fee if your card charges one. I bought mine to play Detective Pikachu and I'm looking forward to that! It works with any 3DS charger from any region, but like all New 3DSs, it doesn't include one.
Overall, I'm glad I bought it!
Definitely worth getting for any Pokémon collectors out there. Despite you can only play 3DS games from Japan, you can still play DS games and use eshop to download Japan exclusive games.
receive it in really good packing, not slow standard post safely arrived , thanks to PA
This 3DS runs miles faster than my the previous generation, and the touchscreen is incredibly responsive. While it only plays games from Japan, I downloaded the new Pokémon Games through the online Store and was able to play them in English thanks to Pokémon allowing you to choose a language. So all up, this purchase was fantastic.
