Very entertaining game
I am a fan of Dragon Quest games, usually role-playing games, and I am really enjoying this different approach to the series.

For fans of DQ, the music, spells/techniques, monsters and legacy heroes and villains are a nice touch. Just seeing the characters or enemies, and just listening to the music I get excited.

Then there is the gameplay. I have to say there is some repetition to be found in the game, as objectives are often to either defeat a lot of monsters or defend something against a lot of monsters. I found this to be a lot of fun, and it has a lot of personality. But if you think this might not be for you, take it into account before buying.

The graphics are very well done. They respect the design of the characters (which is cartoony) but also give some realism by using textures and lighting.

I see a lot of people talking about framerates in games. I will skip that part because I do not know how to determine if those are good or bad in a game. I will say that I found no problem with the animation at all.

Characters gain levels and then get skill points they can be assigned to different skills (the player chooses which skills to activate). So there is customization, and you can make a character be very strong, or you can give him all the techniques as soon as you can, but sacrifice defense and magic power.

Characters are diverse and focus on different playstyles. There is one who is easy to control and has powerful moves. Others require more skill from the player to be used efectively, and may rely on buffs or are spells or slower but more powerful physical attacks.

The game features a well balanced number of heroes and heroines. So you can have a team full of male characters, or have an all-female team.

At the beginning, the enemy monsters are many, but small. This may make the player feel all-powerful. Later on, there will be larger monsters that will need more strategy to be beaten. And then there will be quite a few larger monsters attacking all at once, and every bit of skill or character specialization will be needed to survive.

I think this game can be enjoyed by people even if they have never played Dragon Quest.

Terrible
Repetitive combat with no strategy, just go to the enemy and spam your attack button like a crazy person, small maps, almost all missions are defend this thing and go around the map destroying portals. The story is very bad as any sense of adventure from the main DQ games is lost since you are confined to your base or the missions so there is no exploration.
Character growth is a joke, just pick up things to improve from a very small list.
Who is on your party doesnt make a difference other than to cast the super moves.

I really hope Heroes 2 is better.
