A great evolution on Bubble Bobble
I have been itching for a Bubble Bobble kind of game & as a fan of Touhou already, this fits my needs perfectly. Nice catchy music, engaging gameplay, plenty of single player content, & nice variety of songs. Its too bad that there is going to be a lot of DLC content for this title but so far its been great. The limited-edition products are really nice as well. Please be aware that you need an Asian Nintendo Account in order to access the region-specific DLC. This isn't an issue if it was the American or the Japanese version but this is specifically the Asia version of the game. Other than that, I highly recommend it still.

Fun Game With Great Extras
I really suck at danmaku games... But I love the Touhou universe, characters and especially the music, so I usually play the spin-off games instead. You can imagine I was excited to find out that the spin-offs would finally include a rhythm game! (...Ok sorry, I forgot about Rhythm Carnival)

The game is simple to learn if you're familiar with bubble bobble, but becomes more complex as you progress into the later challenges. Choosing the right spell card for a certain opponent and strategizing the most appropriate time to use them varies greatly based on the opponent's ability and spell card. The rhythm aspect of the game is fun and I've found it adds to the strategy of the game if you time your big shots to certain parts of the songs. You're not going to need to be an expert Project Diva player to time your rhythm hits correctly since the timing is pretty forgiving, but there is a lag calibration setting in the options which is standard in rhythm games.

Speaking of which, if you're a fan of Touhou music you will love this game. Lots of great selections from many of the best producers. What's more, they seem to be regularly adding content as DLC which is nice, and since you're buying the Hong Kong version, you have access to more DLC than the North American download only version. You will need to change your Nintendo eShop region to Hong Kong and buy the corresponding eShop card from your friends at Playasia to make purchases, however. Fortunately it's easy to switch between regions on your eShop account.

The story mode is your typical lighthearted Touhou spin-off fun in the typical visual novel style. Mostly voiced dialogue, which is a plus. Don't expect Visual Arts Key tier story writing, but the beautiful original character illustrations and voice acting spice it up.

Two player versus mode is great after everyone's had a few drinks and won't realize they're playing an anime game. And since the skill floor is low it's easy for people to quickly learn how to play.

The extras are a very nice addition. I mean a Touhou blanket?? Everyone in the Discord server will know who the biggest Touhou fan is once you pop in with that bad boy draped around your shoulders like the ruler of Gensokyo. It's actually quite comfortable, and I was surprised by the print quality. I think it's dye sublimated. Anyway the other extras are also very high quality. The magnets are thick! Very nice. I wish the mini soundtrack had more songs on it though. Pop it in your car's CD player and put VERMILLION EARTH on repeat for those late night tofu deliveries.

I think that covers just about everything... oh, and Reimu best girl.
