description

Utawarerumono: Chiriyuku Mono e no Komoriuta

A certain world, a certain continent. There were various races, which had ears and tails like beasts. They built villages, lived a simple life, and eventually even formed a country.

Yamayura, a village on the northeast frontier of the continent. A dying young man was brought in by a girl named Eruruu. Although he suffered serious injuries, she nursed him back to health, but he had lost all memory of himself.

The young man was named Hakuoro. His wounds healed and grew accustomed to living in the village. While bearing the burden that is the mystery of himself, Hakuoro lent a hand to the village’s development.

Everyone in the village soon comes to rely on Hakuoro, who has a naturally calm and diligent personality. Harvest season eventually arrives. The villagers’ efforts bore fruit and their harvest was unexpectedly abundant. However, the gossip reached the ears of the feudal lord. In order to seize them of their harvest, he sends his troops to Yamayura.

And the matter of the frontier itself became the catalyst to a war that will shake the world…

Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen

The only thing I can remember is coming to in the middle of an unfamiliar snowscape. Where that was or how I got there, I don't know. I couldn't even remember my own name. The memories just wouldn't come.

I only had a moment, left at a loss, to ponder what to do — but fate seemed intent on furthering my misery as a giant, insect-like monster burst from the snow and ice to attack me.

Naturally, I ran like hell. The creature cornered me anyway.

That's when SHE appeared, as if from nowhere — the beautiful, mysterious girl who saved my life.

She told me her name was Kuon. A beautiful, mysterious girl...

...with a tail and ears like a beast's.

Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro

"...I leave Her Highness... in your hands."
"Nekone, live on... and find happiness."

With these final words, Oshtor's soul finally found peace... leaving Haku entrusted with his sister and the princess. For the sake of his friends, and to fulfill his promise, Haku casts aside the name he was given... and dons his fallen friend's mask, choosing to live on as Oshtor.

Armed with his wits and the power of Oshtor's name, Haku faces a battle more dire than any before. Nekone steels herself to support Haku through whatever comes, suppressing the pain of her dear brother's death. Their friends mourn the loss of two dear comrades: Haku, who they believe dead, and Kuon, who left them for her homeland.

It is here, on the cusp of a new conflict, where we return to this land. The flames of war are about to consume Ennakamuy... and soon, all of Yamato.

Well paced, creative battles
Lacking familiarity with Japanese, I won't find out what's going on in this game until the English version's released in 2020 - but I like what I see. The graphics aren't fantastic, not that they need to be, but I find that the map design is where this game really shines! Will recommend the series to Fire Emblem fans.
A "returning" fan from Mask of Deception/Truth.
