Ghosts everywhere
Style is awesome, quality greate (for 2001), sound effects is cool. Old and scary Japanese mansion full of history and traditional Japanese items! Full-colour manual included. Horror genre.
Best Series EVER!
This is definitely the best series ever!
Frightening
Part of what makes the Fatal Frame games so appealing is their atmosphere. I just love exploring the dilapidated environments and seeing something materialize and then vanish in the corner of your eye, some of which can be missed even by looking away for a few brief seconds. That mental awareness, the idea that something can pop up so suddenly, that things can be happening around you creates a very memorable suspense.
Of course, not all the frightening things in this game can be missed. You will find yourself battling with many different types of spirits and ghosts. That's the other enjoyable part of Fatal Frame games over other survival horror titles. The combat is not as frustrating. You don't have to wack away at enemies with blunt objects, but instead use a camera in a first person view. While it can be awkward to take a picture of a spirit (attack), and then run away to reorient for another shot, I still found it suit the atmosphere of the game.
The presentation of the game only add to this. There is dark, sort of grainy appearance to the world. The faint sounds of spirits adds to it. The same holds true during silence. Play this one in the dark and enjoy.

Oh my god the ghost is fast
No, really, I'm fan of Fatal Frame, but first I played the FF2 and then FF3, so when I bought this one thinking with mylself "nah the first one, must be the most easy game of the series."
10 minutes later...
"OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT!? NO, not another! Aaahh!!".
This resume my impression of this game, really is better than FF2 and FF3 if talk about fear and difficulty, the ghost's in this first game of the series can make dash's! Dash's!! Is hard to get them but not impossible.
