The Letter: A Horror Visual Novel [Limited Edition] LE PLAY EXCLUSIVES

First time I played, or shall I say brought a visual novel, I was frustrated thinking how stupid is it to buy a game with no action, a lot of reading and only limited choices. Yet I continued on. I became addicted to visual novels from that point on. The Letter feeds that guilty pleasure well. Fitting in with other games of its genre like Death Mark this game allows you the mistake of killing off nearly every character if you do not consider your choices carefully. A creepy and original story beat plaid with the lights off in hand held mode and headphones connected so the atmosphere fills you fully and effectively. I would even recommend this game to people not normally fans of visual novels.

All seven of the playable characters are well-written + The music is excellent + The voice acting usually ranges from good to great + There are many happy, sad, or neutral endings for individual characters and their relations with others + There are many choices with small or big consequences. All seven playable characters can die.

I really, really enjoyed this visual novel. I haven't 100% it as yet, so I'm giving it 4 stars because there's a lot I don't understand with the main story (I've beat it once so far so I'm assuming there's more info I'm missing as to what happened) other than that, my other issue is some voice lines are missing voices, like, let's say out of 50,000 voice lines, 49,990 aren't voiced- if that makes sense, maybe a bit less; so nothing really bothersome. I'll be doing more playthroughs and once I fit the entire story together, hopefully that'll make it a big 5 stars for me. Otherwise, it's very worth it to buy and the voice acting is quite good. Lots of endings as well as relationship pairing.

The Letter is one of those VNs that aims high and almost pulls it off, but falls at the last hurdle.

From a scope perspective, the game certainly steps up to the plate. The idea that every single choice you make can have far-reaching consequences is definitely praise-worthy but there are definitely points where the cracks start to show and continuity starts to break down. The moments aren't common, but they definitely break the immersion.

The English voices are great, with only a single character sounding slightly less enthusiastic that the rest of the cast, which is a definite plus considering most VNs are either voiceless or tend to only have Japanese voiceovers.

The graphics are good, and what animation there is very well done and provides a pleasant change from static characters on still backgrounds and really adds to the immersion.

The music is a definite stand-out in this game though, with tracks matching the tone very well and the CE coming with the Soundtrack was a great addition.

The main place where the game falls down is the English text. Not in the content, but in the fact that the game clearly needed a good proofreader. With tenses disagreeing and other grammatical errors, it certainly takes away from the whole experience which is really unfortunate as the story it tells is top-notch.

Highly recommended, but a bit more polish would have done wonders.
