The film "STEAMBOY," released in theaters in 2004, was conceived, scripted and directed by Otomo Katsuhiro, and is "the first feature-length animated film since AKIRA." It took 10 years to make this film, from planning to release, and this book is the first of two volumes that compile the enormous amount of storyboards by Otomo himself. When the film was released, the editorial department of Young Magazine published "STEAMBOY Storyboard Collection" in one volume as an extremely thick 780-page hardcover book, but it quickly became a rare item and has since become a premium book. This time, it has been newly reprinted in two volumes, with the A5 size expanded to the size of the complete works of Otomo. In addition to the first half of this work (all parts A, B, and C), which consists of six parts, A, B, C, D, E, and E2, we have added nearly 100 pages of storyboard sketches that are being published and included for the first time in this book, making this a large volume of about 500 pages in the first half alone. As readers who have seen the storyboard collection for the anime ``AKIRA'' know, the author's storyboards are by no means rough, but are extremely detailed and full of information, including settings, and are a ``work'' that is worthy of appreciation even on its own, with the quality and density of a readable piece.
