This is the fourth volume (of eight) of the Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Works edition of "AKIRA," which was created by Otomo when he was 30-31 years old in 1984-1985 and serialized in Young Magazine, which was published twice a month at the time, and includes chapters 43-57 (from page 168 of volume 3 to page 147 of volume 4 of the Young Magazine KC edition) in their original form. This volume also follows the format of volumes 1-3, and is published in a "serialized version" that restores everything, including the title page, to its original serialization state as much as possible. The highlight of this volume is undoubtedly the opportunity to read the climax of the middle of the work that shook the manga world, "The Collapse of Neo-Tokyo," in its "serialized state." In fact, the Neo-Tokyo Collapse scene in the Young Magazine KC version was restructured when it was compiled into a single volume, with pages deleted from the serialized version, new pages added, and pages rearranged, resulting in a completely different editing style from the serialized version, a fact that was well known among fans. The 1995 collection of cover illustrations, "AKIRA CLUB," included a page at the end comparing and explaining these different versions, but the approximately 30-page collapse scene was reduced and crammed onto a single page, so while the differences in structure were understandable, it didn't allow for an immersive experience. Now, the "original version of the Neo-Tokyo Collapse" is finally unveiled. And, of course, this is the first single volume in which you can read the "Neo-Tokyo Collapse" scene exactly as it was in the serialized version! Otomo himself commented, "I tried re-editing it for the single volume, but I still don't know which structure is correct," showing how much he agonized over its composition. We want you to experience the origin of that shocking catastrophe scene, which will go down in manga history, exactly as it was in the serialized version.
