Madden NFL 12

I've never been a committed Madden or NFL fan but around Superbowl time I can't help but get in the spirit of things. I finally decided to get my hands on the new Madden (sick of playing friend's older versions) and have found it more fun and much easier to pick up and play than any of the older ones I've played. As such, a very fitting four out of five.

A must have for NFL fans.

I hadn't played since '08 so I was unaware of things like clock runoff, auto sprint, and the game flow play calling. I don't really understand why these changes were made, so I had to tweak it. I changed quarter length to 8 minutes, turned off auto sprint so my players could make small adjustments instead of flying around everywhere, and well... I just embraced game flow. It's fine for offense because you can tell a run from a pass play, but I usually do manual calls for defense so I can ensure I have zone or man coverage, or blitz when I want to.

After all the changes, I am happy.

It's got the same game play as before, the same commentary exactly as before, and the same issues. My biggest complaint is that the players don't progress well in franchise mode, and it still feels more random than it should be. But overall, it's a fun game to play.
